How do I manually adjust the temperature calibration on a Switchee Smart Thermostat?

Manual temperature calibration

The Switchee Smart Thermostat is an electronic IoT thermostat, meaning it is more like a mini computer than a traditional mechanical thermostat.

This means that to make the temperature reflected on the display as accurate as possible, a calibration is applied to the temperature reading, increasing or decreasing the value reading from the temperature sensor. The temperature calibration is applied to offset the heat generated by the electrical components in the Switchee device. This is also why the temperature reading on the Switchee may begin to increase as soon as you turn it on, even if the heating has not been activated.

In rare cases, the thermostat calibration can be incorrect, and therefore the room temperature recorded by the thermostat can appear too high or too low. This article will outline the context of the temperature calibration, how it works and how you can change this to more accurately reflect the room temperature where the thermostat has been installed.

N.B. Before changing the temperature calibration, please verify the room temp independently using a secondary thermostat in close proximity to the Switchee thermostat.

Solution

Firstly, navigate to the ‘Admin’ menu in Settings. This can be done by tapping:
Spanner > Next x2 > Admin > Passcode: 0123

Once you have gained access to the ‘Admin’ menu, press ‘Next’ at the bottom, and there should be a ‘Calibration’ option. Press on this to open the calibration menu.

The calibration menu is simple - it contains a plus and a minus button for you to increase the temperature calibration, and a reading of what the current calibration is.

The calibration is applied as a positive offset, meaning the reading on the device is added to the temperature sensor reading to give the room temperature.

For example, if the temperature calibration was set to -3.5, the temperature sensor reading is decreased by 3.5 degrees, to give the accurate reflection of the room temperature.

If this room temperature reading has been verified to be too high, then decreasing the calibration to -5.5 would decrease the room temperature reading by a further 2 degrees.

If the room temperature reading has been verified as too low, then increasing the calibration to -1.5 would increase the room temperature by 2 degrees to what is currently being displayed.
